林家謙的《Five Easy Pieces》

香港樂壇近十年人才輩出，在一眾粵語唱作歌手當中，我最喜歡林家謙與湯令山（Gareth T.）。林家謙去年在紅館的演唱會表現突出，盡顯才華；而湯令山用背影唱情歌，被動式追求，不刻意爭取，只是默默地「唯有等歌迷去喜歡我」。他們的共通點，是那股獨特的「宅男」氣質——不費吹灰之力，卻帶著一絲害羞的「禪腔」。聽林家謙唱著「原來一個人都可以盡興」，心裡總會泛起強烈共鳴。我一直很嚮往那種獨來獨往的生活，無論是一個人漫步街頭，還是獨自享受美食，都是與內心對話的難得機會。對我而言，這就是一種幸福。

林家謙最近翻唱了幾首顧嘉煇的名作，收錄在《Five Easy Pieces》專輯中。其中最令我驚喜的，莫過於他重新演繹五十年前的經典電視劇主題曲《大亨》*。用他一貫的「禪腔」，淡淡地追問著聽眾：「找到什麼？追到什麼？追到又如何？」他的聲線彷彿早已看透世態，帶著一股溫柔而強大的感染力，輕聲勸慰著：「且向心內，仔細追尋，找那安然嘅我。」五十年過去，這首歌曲終於找到了最契合的靈魂迴響，唱出了完全不輸原唱的另一種傳奇境界。

《K歌之王》始祖可能是「雙星報喜」

幾星期前，我曾寫過有關林夕的《K歌之王》。有位朋友提醒我，其實很多年前在「雙星報喜」都已經出現過類似的橋段。我翻查了YouTube，果然找到1971年播出的一集「雙星報喜」，許冠文飾演一位心理醫生，而病人則由當時的粵劇紅伶鄧碧雲飾演。故事開始，許冠文請她坐在沙發上，輕鬆回答問題。當時，大部分香港觀眾對心理醫生這一行業還相當陌生，病人躺在沙發上接受治療可算是非常新奇的情節。回想起來，「雙星報喜」也為香港人做了公眾教育，向觀眾介紹了心理醫生這一門醫學專業。

在劇中，許冠文以搞笑的方式發問，而鄧碧雲的回應則妙趣橫生，令觀眾笑聲不斷。當許冠文問及鄧碧雲的往事時，鄧碧雲以國語流行曲名串成一段話，一氣呵成地說道：「《往事只能回味》，《少年的我》《十八姑娘一朵花》，當我在《山前山後百花開》的時候，《郎如春日風》，《春風吻上我的臉》，我們攜手同上《情人橋》，看見《水長流》，我在他左右，他《送我一朵玫瑰花》，怎料他是《負心的人》。如今，《一水隔天涯》，枉我《愛你三百六十年》，往事《苦酒滿杯》……」

這樣將當年的多首國語流行曲串燒融合，實屬首創！「雙星報喜」或許可以說是《K歌之王》的鼻祖了！

問 Dear Myself 有什麼得意成就？

回顧過去幾十年的香港樂壇，幾乎每位傳奇歌手在某個階段都有一首由填詞人度身訂製的歌詞，用來總結他們事業的高峰或宣布歸隱時的成敗得失。如羅文的「幾許風雨」、張國榮的「有誰共鳴」、梅艷芳的「夕陽之歌」、譚詠麟的「無言感激」、徐小鳳的「順流、逆流」、陳百強的「一生何求」、溫拿的「千載不變」等，這些作品成為他們的代表作，也成為了流行經典名曲。

近期，廟街歌王尹光以他的新歌《Dear Myself》在網絡上發行專輯，突破了他過去一貫的老套唱腔，轉而以抒情流行曲風呈現。這首歌迅速在各個層面引起了極大的迴響，不論是普通街坊，還是樂壇和藝壇中的資深人士，無不對其讚不絕口，深感驚艷。大家都被薛晉寧的詞感動了，除了將尹光的經典「數毛毛」、「數波波」、「荷李活」、「十四座」巧妙地融入歌詞，也利用了尹光一生的「智慧與荒謬」引起廣大樂迷的共鳴。

尹光之所以引起樂迷的共鳴，正是因為他從未被譽為紅歌星，也沒有取得「什麼得意成就」，一生只是「無無聊聊從未太閃耀，在唱日日夜夜為博你一笑」，一直做自己喜歡的事，自嘲雖未能「進軍荷李活」但「過足口癮」。這種現實的演藝生涯，令不少圈中人感同身受。張家輝在一個訪問中談到此曲時，說聽後禁不住掉下眼淚。他何曾不是看著「這段旅程人來人往，細數著頭毛溜走」，也「聽過幾多落淚大笑歡呼拍手」。尹光能夠以感恩的心態接受現實，並說出「多麼感激有幸置身這裏望滿天星宿」的話語，令人深受感動。

尹光已經唱了50多年，現在將近80歲的他，不計較得失，依然繼續唱自己喜歡的歌曲。尹光的成功之道，就是他闊達的心態，「所得所失怎說起，轉轉心情人又照舊」，以及樂觀的性格，一句「有乜睇化唔化 玩個夠」，將不如意的事拋諸腦後，人就自然活得開心。你說尹光成功嗎？見仁見智吧！

人到了中年，「季節是歲月神偷」，自問「無無聊聊從未太閃耀」，沒有什麼得意成就可陳，尹光的《Dear Myself》為不少樂迷帶來最溫暖的安慰！難怪尹光於80歲高齡還能打進 2023年商台叱咤樂壇最受歡迎男歌手最後五強，預祝「光B」功成獲獎！

今天重聽40年前的「尖沙嘴Susie」

前幾天，74歲的許冠傑 (阿Sam) 在紅館開騷，請來年輕歌手 Serreni 和他合唱「尖沙嘴Susie」，我在重溫歌詞之餘，佩服阿Sam 在40年前已經寫了幾乎是今天中產年輕一代的典型， 當年所謂「思想開放，好識嘆」的「飛女」，現在來看實在沒有什麼大不了。

「尖沙嘴Susie」此曲反映了香港社會的價值觀的改變，40年前的女仔如果「個性好玩」、「死都拗番生」、「密密去 Disco 通宵到達旦」、「攬身攬勢都好閒」，肯定被標籤為不良少女。40年前阿Sam不顧社會接受程度，夠膽寫又夠膽唱，回想起來也是年輕創作人的特質。但今天來說，尖沙嘴Susie 代表的乃係一般港女，社會富裕了，出身中產家庭的在在皆是，「老竇勤力慣」，又「駛乜憂兩餐」，讀過幾年蕃書，自然善於社交，出入老蘭，談笑風生（死都拗番生），吃喝消遣，又有何不妥？

阿Sam 雖然年屆74，開騷請來的嘉賓名單反映他的思想依然前衛開放。能被阿Sam 邀請的嘉賓，大家都猜想是那個年代的歌手，會否是譚詠麟，或者是那些肥媽之類的東西。正當社會上充斥著批評年輕人的聲音，說「一代不如一代」，上了岸的年長高層否定年輕人的能力，繼續沈醉於「中年好聲音」和昔日的光輝時，阿Sam 卻偏偏邀請了年輕唱作歌手Serreni、林家謙、張敬軒等與他在紅館同台演出，以他的江湖地位，表態支持年輕歌手。阿Sam 的嘉賓名單也同時包括了不同年代的歌手，如古巨基、郭富城等，為現今的社會氣氛，增添一點和諧，值得敬佩。

社會在變，人在變，唯一可以肯定的，就是社會的未來是屬於年輕人的，所以不難理解每個年代的年輕人往往都是最能掌握社會脈搏的一群。也許當年的許冠傑也被視為離經叛道，但他寫的歌也是最能反映市民的心聲。70年代的香港，工業起飛，但社會制度未盡健全，大批打工仔被迫接受不平等的待遇，他寫的「半斤八兩」瘋魔全城，也成了粵語流行曲的經典。

HBO GO owes all Hong Kong subscribers an explanation

HBO GO owes all Hong Kong subscribers a formal notice for speeding up the playback rate of all movies and TV series. In response to my complaint, HBO GO's local operator (PCCW) acknowledged the distorted playback of all sources currently on HBO GO Hong Kong, and blamed the different video formats played in the Asian region, but did not seem to be willing to inform its subscribers that they have been paying to see distorted contents.

In a nutshell, HBO GO plays all contents faster in Hong Kong and with slightly but noticeably higher pitch when compared to the original sources. To find out what you are actually watching, just compare any episode of any TV series with corresponding parts in a trailer available on YouTube, and you will clearly notice everything (dialog, music, ...) is more rapidly played and sound is shifted up by roughly a semi-tone on HBO GO. You can imagine when a piece of music is played faster and at a higher pitch, it is not the same music intended by its composer! Likewise, a dialog said more rapidly does not convey the same impression the director has intended. But if your only source is HBO GO, you won't even know that you are being cheated!

So, Hong Kong subscribers are not getting the correct products that the content creators have carefully designed and produced for their viewers. At least, the subscribers should be told and be allowed to decide whether they wish to pay for distorted contents.

PCCW sent a friendly customer service to help me unsubscribe the service, but neither wanted to address the issue nor intended to inform its subscribers about this serious technical deficiency.

Rogers LS3/5A still the best choice

BBC originally designed the LS3/5A as a studio monitor speaker, and the shoebox size loudspeaker produces impressive sound and has become the best mini loudspeaker in the world despite being a bit pricy, which is understandable as BBC is still imposing a 10% levy from each and every pair sold.

I bought my first pair of Rogers LS3/5A back in 1992, and it fit perfectly in my midget home. Partnering with ROTEL's pre-amp and power amp, the baby loudspeakers have kept making all my friends feel astonished how dramatic yet clean and clear sound could be produced from the small walnut wood boxes. The vocals were the most natural and the midrange was sublime. Compared to my old AR94 which was big and any other model I have listened to, this small British-made loudspeaker has cut the mustard in its brilliant midrange and stereo imaging, except for the very low-range as limited by its woofer size. But I am not a fan of sub-bass or synthesized sounds, and definitely don't feel a loss with less intense bass.

In recent years, my Rogers seemed to begin to lose its magic, and after rounds of primitive tests including replacing cables, trying out different versions of recordings, and eventually installing a new Roksan Blak amplifier which I was told can support the Rogers fantastically, all didn't seem promising!

A psychological unshakable assumption must have prevented me from thinking in terms of the speakers themselves. For years, I kept exploring new suspects, including my own ears. Eventually, I asked my son if the speakers sounded strange to him, and his response resolved all the puzzles. He said he thought I knew they were bad! Then I realized they had aged, and nothing can revert it.

So, I bought a new pair of the exact same Rogers LS3/5A in walnut wood. The moment they got connected up, the first batch of notes from Yoyo Ma's Bach Cello Suites was lively and real, with the low-side midrange sound of the amazing evenness of Ma's playing filling the room. You simply couldn't stop listening until the very end. Then, I switched to Latin American jazz. The vibrant and democratic collaborations of piano, trumpets and drums were all right in front of me, with every instrument so awesomely distinguishable, and again real!

Thank God! All my favourite music, from classic, jazz, to Jacky Cheung's, has now returned!

「大樂必易」：滄海一聲笑與 Joy to the World

黃霑在憶述他為電影《笑傲江湖》配樂時，說導演徐克要求他譜寫主題曲， 並指定主題曲必須配合電影中的一幕講及兩位武林高手（曲洋、劉正風）與令狐沖在船上即興創奏出來的樂曲。出自高手的必定是偉大的音樂，黃霑絞盡腦汁寫了好幾首給徐克，都不獲接受，最後黃霑從古書《樂志》中的一句「大樂必易」得到了靈感！

中國最古老的音樂旋律基本上只有五個音階，即是 宮、商、角、徵、羽（do、re、mi、so、la），黃霑就直接將五個音階從高到低依序排下來，la---so-mi--re--do--，mi---re-do--La--So--，就這樣寫出了「滄海一聲笑，滔滔兩岸潮」，然後，再由低至高、高至低隨便反覆的滑行幾次，就這樣完成了這首在中、港、台都極為流行的經典名曲。

聖誕節期間，聽到收音機播出耳熟能詳的 "Joy to the World"，此曲是公認的經典，幾乎地球上每個角落都有當地語言的版本，中文版叫「普世歡騰」。細心聆聽，發現 "Joy to the World, the Lord is come" 的旋律跟「滄海一聲笑」有異曲同工之妙。C 大調八個音階從高到低依序排列， do--ti--la-so--- fa-mi--re--do，然後，旋律照樣由低至高、高至低隨意反覆滑行！"Joy to the World" 同樣是「大樂必易」的經典例子！
